Qu'est-ce que "younger/little brother" ?

Qu'est-ce que "younger/little brother" ?

Est-ce «frère plus juene» ou «frère cadet» ?

little brother - petit frère

young(er) brother - jeune frère/frère cadet

As in English, you will find interchangeability of these terms in use, given that both languages use the phrase 'little brother/petit frère' to refer to 'younger' rather than smaller stature.

You'll often hear frère cadet.

"Ma" Mere, "Mon' pere, "Mon" frere

Salut!

In the audio of the three above words, "le" and "la" are spoken instead of "ma" and "mon", which is what is actually written.

Merci!

Basic question, in English we say "big brother", I was told "grand frère" was wrong and it should be "frère plus agé" or "vieux frère?? Thank you."

Hi Phil,

Funnily enough, I heard 'grand-frère' yesterday in an episode of the BBC4 French series 'Engrenages' ( Spiral)! , said by a fifteen year old about his 'big brother'.

Having said that I think it is regarded as childish, and you would probably say -

Mon frère aîné /plus agé

I personally have never heard 'vieux frère'.

Hope this helps!
