The right to vote is very important in France because democracy is essential for French citizens. In the country of (the) Human Rights, voting is not compulsory. Today, all French citizens can vote if they are at least eighteen years old, but this was not always the case. The French people had to fight to obtain that right. Men got it in 1848, but French women had to wait until 1944! Plus, since 1992, French citizens are also European citizens and they can vote in European elections.
