Can someone explain why this is the case? Why the "on" form for "nous"? Thanks!

Do you mean this: "ce qui nous avait facilité la vie"?

In this case "nous" is the indirect object of the verb, the subject is what's referred to by "ce qui", so is in the 3rd person.
