De vs des

Encore pourquoi des nombreux restaurants au lieu de ‘de nombreux restaurants’?

« Nous profiterons des nombreux restaurants » from « Nous 'profiterons de' les nombreux restaurants » The verb form is 'profiter de' - we will benefit from/take advantage of THE (numerous/many) restaurants.

Hi Catriona,

I don't have access to the actual text.

If the restaurants are specific, that is referred to by "le" or "les" then the definite article will be used, and the complex "des" -->" de les" will be maintained before the adjective (nombreux). The des only becomes de before an adjective in the indefinite article case (un, une) non-specific.

Hope this helps.

Jim
