Donc, Alors, Ainsi

Donc, alors and ainsi, are they synonymous and interchangeable? 

A) As 'so' in sentences such as:

1) So, I'm ready for a drink.

2) I've been working in the garden so I am ready for a drink.

B) Any general advice?

Donc, alors, c'est pourquoi, ainsi, du coup -- all of these express some kind of causal consequence.
