Hello,

I was wondering, for this question:

Il y a un ________ arbre près de la vieille fenêtre.

why the answer is vieil and not vieux, like from the list on adjectives that go before nouns?

Before a masculine noun starting with a vowel hence vieil.

Ce monument est très vieux aujourd'hui.

Why did you use vieux here even it is proceeded by a vowel word ,"aujourd'hui.it must be vieil accordingly.
