Hello,

I had a question on this translation: I don't remember this film. 

Why does it translate to: Je ne me souviens pas de ce film. I don't understand the placement of the 'de'?

Have a look at the above link. You will find the verb souvenir takes the preposition de after it.

This takes the sense of memory/recollection/reminder (or not) of something or other.

Se souvenir de quelque chose -- to remember something

As you can see, the preposition de follows the verb souvenir and precedes the thing that is remembered.
