I am always having trouble in the placement of “toujours”. I don’t get the placement in “ elle trouvait toujours”. My brain sees this as backward.

I am always having trouble in the placement of “toujours”. I don’t get the placement in “ elle trouvait toujours”. My brain sees this as backward.

And yet sometimes I see the placement in the same order as in English. For example, in the last sentence, “I have always wanted.....”  this is exactly as it would be in English. Any tips for me to figure out where to place “toujours” in a sentence?

The placement of adverbs is tricky in French. Often, there are several possibilities. A good rule of thumb is that the adverb goes right after the first conjugated verb.
