il en existe toutes sortes. Treated as impersonal phrase ?

il en existe toutes sortes - why isn't is  this : il en existent toutes sortes.

It looks like this is never used in the plural - an impersonal phrase, is that correct ?

Thanks

Paul.

Paul,

‘ il existe ‘ is a fixed expression. It behaves the same as ‘ il y a ‘ - that is, it is invariable.
