La demande ne peut pas être effectué vu que la jour est déjà passé

Why is vu used in this case to mean since in this case? Also is there anything similar to this that we could use the same way? Thank you

It is not ‘vu’ alone that is being used to mean ‘since’ or ‘given that’, but the fixed expression ‘vu que ‘. It is commonly used in speech or informal writing. Note also that ‘vu’ alone is used as a preposition.

“Étant donné que” could be used here instead and Larousse gives a non-exhaustive list of other potential synonyms.
