Le week-end

Why is "a busy weekend" spelled "un weekend" instead of "un week-end"? Is this a parisian vs Québec thing?

William,

either spelling is considered acceptable in metropolitan French.

‘ Weekend ‘ is the post-1990 rectifications version.
