sometimes its je leur parle sometimes je parle aux leur,; how do we know which is which. think im missing something here

It is always je leur parle. Je parle aux leur is incorrect.

I'm not sure the second sentence you mentioned is correct, the first one is though and that's the correct way to say it :)
