La traduction de " students were welcomed by..." n' est-elle pas "furent accueillis" au lieu de "ont été accueillis" ?

"Les étudiants ont été accueillis" is passé composé. "Les étudiants furent accueillis" is passé simple. The latter is not used in spoken French, only in written French of a higher register.
