Subjontif Imparfait

Salut! Merci.

You seem to be confusing imparfait and subjunctive, and then giving an example based on an ‘if’ clause - “si … “, which is necessarily followed by the imparfait, and is part of a conditional construct.

Avais’ and ‘étais’ are avoir and être forms respectively, in imparfait. The 2nd forms you are referring to - eusse and fusse - are virtually irrelevant in current spoken French - subjunctive in the imperfect. When the subjunctive is needed, it will almost always be in the present tense. When imparfait is needed, you are very unlikely to need the subjunctive form.

Are you sure you are at the language level to be looking at these quite advanced topics - if you are at A2 level ? Much better to work systematically through and at appropriate level, in my view.
