Time inconsistency

Time inconsistency

When I write “Il est dix heures” as one of the accepted responses to a specific request to translate precisely ten o’ clock in the evening, it’s marked as incorrect. Yet, elsewhere, it’s stated as an acceptable response to a person who knows you are talking about the evening rather than the morning. So, it should be marked as correct along with the other two responses. In my opinion! :-)

The lesson is teaching you to express time unambiguously. Il est dix heures is not unambiguously 10 pm (it could also be 10 am). That's why, in the context of this lesson, your answer is incorrect.

Hi Richard,

You are correct to have referenced the lesson.

So 10 pm could be qualified by saying "Il est dix heures du soir"

If you feel particularly strongly about your point then the thing to do is use the "report a problem" button top left of the lesson.

You may or may not get your point actioned by just posting as above.

Bonne journée

Jim

Copied and pasted from the lesson:-

"Add precisions like du matin (in the morning), de l'après-midi (in the afternoon) and even du soir(in the evening, starting around 6PM), after the "12-hour clock" time."
