Singer Edith Piaf, real name Edith Gassion, was born on 19 December 1915 in Paris to an acrobat father and a singer mother. After growing up in the brothel kept by her grandmother, Edith went to join her father in the circus where he worked. She was discovered a few years later, and she started her singing career in a Parisian cabaret. That's where Louis Leplée gave her the nickname of "la Môme Piaf", which means "little bird" in Parisian slang. Little by little, her notoriety grew until Edith became an international star. She sang many hits over the years, including "La Vie en Rose" and "Je ne regrette rien". And her songs have always remained dear to the hearts of French people.
