Are 'hilarant' and 'amusant' synonyms?

Can the above adjectives be used interchangeably in this exercise, as only 'hilarant' was provided in the correct options.

Bonjour Andrea,

hilarant = hilarious / screamingly funny - amusant = funny / amusing

Hilarant is much stronger than amusant. So they can't be exact synonyms.
