B1 Lesson on

Le chanteur a interprété trois chansons, dont une qu'il avait écrite spécialement pour l'occasion.

I do not understand why in the above sentence écrit (pp of écrire?) has an 'extra' e. I understand this only applies to être verbs + avoir if object preceeds verb?

Hi John.

The direct object is chanson (une) and placed before the verb so the pp has to agree.

Bonne journée

Jim

The rule is: when the COD appears before the participle, the participle matches the COD in gender and number. This rule applies equally and universally to être as well as avoir verbs. No need to memorize any special cases or exceptions.
