The Collins-Robert French dictionary suggests: «Je prends une pause» J'espère que cela vous aidera. Bonne chance Ron

Bonjour Deborah ! Actually the colloquial way to express that you're taking a break - you're stopping an activity for a bit - is "Je fais une pause. / Je fais un break." I hope that's helpful! À bientôt !
