This is a very interesting question as these kinds of idiomatic expressions can fall through the net.
The expression 'faire de drôles de bruits' will simply translate as 'making funny (kind of) noise'.

You could say for instance -
C'est une drôle d'affaire ! = That's a funny kind of business
Il a un drôle d'air celui-là = This man looks very odd
C'est un drôle de mot = It's a funny old word
