Capitalizing letters

Why do we not capitalize the names of places? Are there any instances where we will capitalize a letter?

Bonjour Natalie,

In French, nationalities used as adjectives (as opposed to nouns) never start with a capital letter in French, unlike English:

Ma petite amie est canadienne. My girlfriend is Canadian.

C'est un Canadien. = He is a Canadian.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
