Choice of using the subjunctive or not?

Could you please explain why, in the answer to the last question, there is a choice of using the subjunctive or not using it: - and I really hope he'll be happy!et j'espère vraiment qu'il SERA content !
et j'espère vraiment qu'il SOIT heureux !

Hi Stewart,

It all depends on the degree of doubt of the outcome.

Personally, I would use the indicative future here, because of the 'vraiment'.

But I didn't write the exercise and the subjunctive isn't wrong if you get my meaning...
