Hello, in this story, when they are at the library, shouldn't 'choose' be used here rather than 'chose'?

‘ Chose ‘ is correct in the sentence as given.

“…. she would take me to the local library so that I chose something to read with her “.

If the sentence had been “ … she would take me to the local library so that I could ( or ‘ for me to ‘ ) choose …. “, different matter.
