Je veux les bonbons. -- I want the candy.
The first sentence speaks about general candy, whereas the second one refers to a specific set of candy, e.g., the bonbons in the bowl on the table.
des meaning some, les meaning that you know the bonbons ( plural) may be the ones in the cabinet.
