Dimanche, .... ou Le dimanche, .... ?

In the correction list offered, I was surprised to see "Le dimanche".

Is there a particular reason why this is correct here since the text implies only the one Sunday, not all Sundays?

Bonjour Ian,

In that particular case (talking of that specific weekend), you can use the article to convey that -

"On (the) Sunday, they did ..."

In both cases when mentioning the day of the week, they used an article, but the lesson states that when speaking of a specific day, one does not use

Depending upon context, Le dimanche can simply express the day after Saturday which is what the lesson seems to be suggesting.
