Doubt with two sentences

Hello, I have some questions related to the construction of the following two sentences:

- "Qui aurait cru que ça arriverait enfin ?". Could I also say "Qui aurait cru que ça serait arrivé enfin ?" ?

- "L'un d'entre eux a même dit 'à bientôt !' au moment où je m'en allais !". Would it be correct to say "L'un d'entre eux a même dit 'à bientôt !' au moment où j'étais en train de m'en aller !" ?

Thank you!

Bonjour P.B.,

1. The English given was -

Who would have thought that it would finally happen ( and not ... that it would finally have happened, which would use the past conditional tense)

In these exercises, we try to say as close as possible to the English given.

Although both sentences wouldn't change the meaning we tried to convey.

2. If you say 'j'étais en train de m'en aller', as s'en aller is a quick action, you are talking about the precise moment when you were leaving rather than just 'was leaving', which is the English given.

Bonne Continuation !
