Hi Lori,

If someone was asking you to write your name down (because they weren't sure of the spelling for instance) you would use 'écrire'.

If you signed up for something on an official document, you would use 's'inscrire'.

Inscrire is used less frequently and means to inscribe. Take a look at the following page for lots of examples -
