...could we alternatively use something like “s'ils connaissaient quant à de cet achat?”

Sorry but no this is a meaningless sentence that I can't make right.

I can't think of another expression either.

Knowing in this context is more 'to be in the know' which is 'être au courant'.

That sounds acceptable to me, but it may be in a different register.
