FUTUR PROCHE vs FUTUR SIMPLE

FUTUR PROCHE vs FUTUR SIMPLE

Dear Aurelie,

Thanks for the excellent exercises, precise grammer and support.

I have a question about Futur Proche and Futur Simple. At what point/time do we change from Futur Proche to Futur Simple: 6 hours, 1 day,...? I do not remember seeing any rules about this.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi Chris,

I think you are asking for too much. There is no hard and fast rule at what point in the future you switch from one to the other. Luckily, in English there is a similar grammatical construction which you can use as a guide:

I am going to water the plants. -- Je vais arroser les plants.
I will water the plants. -- J'arroserai les plants.

So, roughly, whenever you would use a construction with going to in English, you can safely use the future proche in French.

-- Chris (not a native speaker).

Thanks, Chris!

cool

I need help in this topic. Can anyone please suggest a good video I could watch to get my concepts clear?
