Gender question and passive voice question

A couple of questions:

En forme et en bonne santé- is this a standard spelling despite the masc noun animal?

I struggle with the passive voice..."par" is supposed to be a signal of it....is "the rules have to be established" a passive voice? Why isn't the answer ....is faut que les règles établissent?

Thanks so much for your help with this

Bonjour Jill,

1. The expressions 'en forme' and 'en bonne santé' are set and don't change whoever you are talking about.

2. To be a passive voice the subject of the verb has to be  undergoing the action and not doing the action ( active voice ) and here as you rightly say there is no 'par'.

If you say -

Il faut que les règles établissent que ... Rules must establish that ... Règles is doing the action of establishing

Il faut que les règlent soient établies dès le début = Rules have to be established right from the start

implying that someone is establishing the rules, not the rules themselves.

Maybe this lesson will help -

Voix passive

I hope this helps!
