What would "some teacher" be in french if not -"un professeur"?

No, you wouldn't use un in this context but certains if you mean to say some (specific) teachers.

Some teachers didn't show up. -- Certains enseignants ne sont pas venus.

Note, however, that this meaning of "some" is different from "several" or "a few".

Well, I would disagree, as "some" is regularly used in America as a slightly disparaging form of "a".  As in: "Is Mary dating any one ?  Yeah, she's going out with some teacher."

If the question implies some specific teacher, it would be great to add this information as a hint. I agree with David that in English "some" can easily be perceived as a form of "a".
