How would one say 'I came up by car' if referring to driving up a hill ?

If 'Je suis monté en voiture' means 'I got into the car', how does one say (if visiting someone on a hill and they asks how you got there) 'I came up by car ?
Surely that is also 'Je suis monté en voiture'.....

Bonjour Michael,

"I came up by car"  --> Je suis arrivé(e) en voiture or je suis venu(e) en voiture.

Your proposal using monter "Je suis monté(e) en voiture" suggests (a state of being) that you put yourself into the car.

Bonne journée

Jim
