indirect vs direct pronouns

I know that in direct pronouns are me, te, lui ... and they are used when the noun comes after a preposition but why is it m'aide and not l'aide?

Hi Phoenix,

Without context it is difficult to say for certain but -

m'aide means helps me as in,

Elle m'aide beaucoup = She helps me a lot

l'aide means helps her/him as in,

Elle l'aide beaucoup = She helps him/her a lot
