What is the correct translation in French of “It is sunny”?
Is it “Il fait beau” or “Il fait du soleil”?

Hi Alan,
Both are correct and you will hear both.
The French tend to equate good weather with sunny weather, so 'il fait beau' will normally mean that the sun is shining.
'If fait chaud', will put emphasis on a high temperature.

I posed the question because in a recent test I was asked to translate “ in case it is sunny”.
I wrote “au cas où il ferait du soleil”, which was marked partially correct.
Apparently the answer should have been “ au cas où il ferait beau”.

....In this case , Alan, 'au cas où il ferait beau ' is the only one that sounds right to me.
Hard to justify....
