je souviens et je me souviens??

hi and thank you for taking the time to answer this: i am very confused between the difference in ‘Je me souviens’ and ‘Je souviens’??? in English of course we only have ‘I remember’ , that s why i have no idea when to use which!! please help if you can and many thanks 🙏🏽

The verb se souvenir is reflexive in French. In English, "to remember" is transitive and not reflexive. You need to keep that difference in mind.

Je me souviens de qqc. -- I remember smthg.
