I guess either could be speaking, since the job title is the same regardless of gender.

This example is undoubtedly included because it remains a profession that does not have an accepted (Académię Française) feminine gender noun, although le professeur and la professeur are used in appropriate contexts. The absence of the article in describing one's profession in French means the answer to this question is that either could be speaking, and that stands in contrast to many of the other professions.
