Just wondering why “and they loved each other forever” would not be expressed in the imparfait

Toujours - when it means always, from before and still now, “triggers” passé composé. Imparfait would indicate the “loving” was in the past and finished at some time : https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/passe-compose-vs-imparfait/
