Do you mean for les feux (de signalisation) ? In most cases, in French as in English, the shorter version will be used in everyday speech if the meaning is clear from the context, but as “les feux” has multiple possible meanings, if specificity is required, the full name will be used. https://www.wordreference.com/fren/feux%20de%20détresse
