Kwiziq vs DALF

Hello, I was wondering how close the questions on the Kwizzes are to the actual DALF C1 exam. I am testing at C1 level and was curious to what degree it would prepare me for the actual exam. Thanks. Nelson

Bonsoir Nelson, Voici le lien pour le CEFR: http://www.ciep.fr/delf-dalf First and foremost, the questions on Kwiziq are to assist in learning the language; however, the DELF/DALF exam is unlike anything I have taken previously. It consists of four parts: 1) reading comprehension 2) verbal comprehension (listen to a CD and answer questions about the material) 3) production of a written document (based on a subject from group of topics that will be presented) 4) production of a conversation with an examiner and a witness (based on a topic from a blind draw) Having tested and passed the B1, I can tell you first hand that the study material here is for learning the language, i.e. vocabulary, syntax, structures, etc. However, while this is an excellent site for picking up the nuances and basis of the language, and keeping it all fresh in your head, there is NOT a similarity for the exam. The exam is testing for the ability to read, write and comprehend the French language. There will not be a section on grammar, but how you use the grammar verbally and in writing. The DELF/DALF is more like being in a lab instead of a didactic test. I do encourage you to continue studying on Kwiziq because it is very good review and it will help you on the test, to what degree, I am uncertain. I have learned a lot from reading the lessons here and taking the quizzes and level exams. The main benefit that I have found is that Kwiziq is very useful in familiarizing oneself with a lot of the small nuances that make French, well French. It will definitely benefit someone who puts the time and effort into it, just don't go into the DELF/DALF thinking that the exam will be like this. The single best thing that you can do to prepare is to study the sample exams offered online by the CEFR. http://www.ciep.fr/en/delf-tout-public/sample-papers http://www.ciep.fr/en/delf-prim-delf-delf-junior-version-dalf-diplome-detudes-langue-francaise-diplome-approfondi-langue/sample-papers Bonne chance et bon courage !

One other quick point if I may. Living in the US, one is at somewhat of a disadvantage due to the fact that while there are quite a number of French expats here, most if not all of them speak English. To that end, there is not a milieu of immersion so anything that you can do to read or listen to French on a daily basis will be of a great help independent of which DELF/DALF level you should decide to test for.

Thank you very much, this is very helpful. I actually did end up finding the page Laura referred to shortly after posting this. And I also have the Reussir le DALF book which I have been told is also an excellent prep book for the actual test. Will definitely continue with Kwiziq, I've found it super helpful as my skills progress. Merci beaucoup, je l'apprécie !
