Why use du coup instead of donc? Du coup and donc both translate to so.

Les anniversaires de ma famille
This question relates to:French interactive reading exercise "Les anniversaires de ma famille"

Bonjour Aarushi,
You're right: "donc" and "du coup" can be interchangeable. In the context of this conversation (i.e. a casual conversation between friends), "du coup" feels a bit more natural than "donc" (which has "very slightly" more formal tone to it).
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
