Les champignons et les chataignes

Bonjour,

Thank you for this fun little story about the fall. Just a couple of questions:

I wrote "devenir malade" which was marked as wrong. I understand that "tomber malade" is a common expression, but couldn't you use "devenir" as well as "tomber" or "etre"?

Also, I used "soigneux" instead of "prudent". And, I believe "Je fais beaucoup d'attention" is correct, too.

Merci tout le monde,

Hilary

Bonjour N.,

I'm glad you enjoyed this exercise. Thank you for your kind comment!

In French, "devenir malade" is strange and not idiomatic. Using "tomber/être malade" is the standard way of expression "to get/be ill".

In French, "prudent" means "careful" in the sense of cautious, taking care to avoid danger/risk while "soigneux" means "careful" in the sense of tidy, meticulous, taking care over how you do something (neat work, looking after your things). So, in the context if the text, "prudent" is the right choice.

Wordreference-soigneux

"Je fais beaucoup d'attention" is not correct in French -> "Je fais beaucoup attention" is but it also means "I pay a lot of attention". In the context of the text and according to the English sentence, you would use "je fais très attention" (= I am very careful) because it comes from the expression "faire attention".

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
