Nous mettrons la table ...

My petit quiz question was Nous mettrons la table ... which was translated as "We'll lay the table ..."  In the US, we use "set" not "lay," the latter having an uncomfortable connotation!

Good point Dave!

We have added the US 'set' for an alternative to the British 'lay the table'.

Bonne Continuation !

“Lay the table” - quite a quaint (and formal) turn of phrase from an Australian perspective too .  Probably still see it in magazines at times, but I have hardly heard it since the ‘60s. Sounds very ‘English’ - long live regional differences, I guess !
