The final -s on the participle is there only when the COD (direct object) precedes the participle and is in plural. Here is an example:
J'ai montré les arbres à mes parents. -- I shows the trees to my parents.
Je les ai montrés à mes parents. -- I showed them to my parents.
In the first sentence, the COD (les arbres) follows the participle. In the second case the COD (les) is masculine plural and precedes the participle. That's why it's montrés.
