Passer - pass an exam or no?
This question relates to:French lesson "Passer can be used with avoir or être in compound tenses depending on its meaning in French (Le Passé Composé)"
Asked 2 weeks ago
Bonjour Paul,
In French, 'passer un examen' is to take it ( sit for it), not pass it, and the translation given in the question you quote is the following -
We took our exams yesterday
which is correct.
If we wanted to say to pass an exam, you would have used the verbs avoir or réussir, not passer.
Hope this helps!
