I'm using another website along side this and there it says ''Qu'est-ce que c'est'' means ''What is that'' where as here you say it means ''What is it'' I'm really confused.
I hope you find the following clearer:
- What is it?
c’est = it is
→ Qu’est-ce que c’est? = what is it?
- What is this / that?
Cela / ça = this or that
→ Qu'est-ce que c'est que cela ? = What is this / that?
→ Qu'est-ce que c'est que ça ? = What is this / that?
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
