Just to check that I have understood your query properly, Di -
Although the word pierre can be a stone or a man's name, it all has to do with the use of capital letters.
So as Pierre in the French text has a capital letter it can only be -
Although I do concede that if it was a listening task there could be confusion in the meaning between -
I admire Pierre's collection
and
I admire the stones' collection
