Possessive 'De'

Why is it that it is la cousine d'Eve and not la cousine a Eve?
(With eve being a name)

Bonjour,

The lesson quoted is very good --  it explains the preposition de being employed here in a "possession" sense.

Bonne journée

Bonjour,

The preposition "à" only indicates possession when used with the verb "être" (meaning to belong to):

Cette maison est à Eve. = This house belongs to Eve.

La maison d'Eve est belle. = Eve's house is beautiful.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
