While I do realize that the construction is covered at a higher level than this writing exercise, I was curious if the second sentence is grammatically or situationally incorrect? Or maybe just not preferred?

The difference is slight in French as in English -
when you get here = quand vous arriverez ici
when you've got here = quand vous serez arrivés ici

The future perfect tense is used when stressing the sequence of events in the future. In this example, the sequence of actions is clear and no additional emphasis is put on their sequence.
