Quand même and Du coup

What are the English translations for these 2 little phrases? I’m guessing Quand même here means something along the lines of “all the same”. I’m not sure about Du coup … is it something like “having said that “? It’s the dictation re paying by cash or card. Thanks Sue

Bonjour Sue,

You're definitely on the right track. Frank's advice is great and WordReference is a reliable resource, so is Reverso.

quand même

du coup

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Hi Sue, the fact that you are guessing the meaning from the context is the sign of a good student.  To supplement and to verify your inclination, I would suggest a dictionary application that you can install.   I personally use 'Word Reference'.  For example, the translation of 'quand même' is all the same, still, anyway, anyhow, or even so.  The dictionary will give different meanings according to context as well as examples of usage.  As our teachers say, Bonne continuation !
