Question B1 writing challenge

I thought a phrase starting with " En grandissant.." would trigger the imperfect. However in this particular writing exercise of B1: "A Childhood Passion" the sentences that follows that aforementioned "gérondif" are in the simple past.

Bonjour Karen,

Here, "developed" is considered as a completed action (it happened and it is done). So, only Le Passé Composé can be used in this instance. If you wrote "je développais d'autres intérêts", it would be translated as "I was developing other interests", which is different from the English sentence : "I developed other interests".
